    (i) Motor fails to start:

    Causes:

    • Low voltage
    • Open circuit in the armature or field windings
    • Shorted windings
    • Faulty starter or starter switch
    • Mechanical binding or damage

    Remedies:

    • Check and adjust the voltage
    • Check for and repair any open circuits in the armature or field windings
    • Check for and repair any shorted windings
    • Replace the starter or starter switch if necessary
    • Check for and repair any mechanical binding or damage

    (ii) Motor runs too fast:

    Causes:

    • High voltage
    • Open circuit in the field windings
    • Worn or damaged bearings
    • Mechanical binding or damage

    Remedies:

    • Check and adjust the voltage
    • Check for and repair any open circuits in the field windings
    • Replace worn or damaged bearings
    • Check for and repair any mechanical binding or damage
